Traditional Chinese smoked black tea!
Lapsang Souchong is a black large-leaf oxidized tea, with a strong smoky flavor created by burning tarry pine and spruce roots and branches under the tea during preparation. The oxidized tea is placed on bamboo grates where it is allowed to smoke properly. Lapsang is produced mainly in China, in the Anhui province.
Lapsang was a classic of the English royal family in the 17th century, but later it also found its way into the hands of ordinary citizens. Sales were only carried out through pharmacies, as Lapsang Souchong was considered a medicine fit for a king.
PS: It is great to enjoy with a slice of lemon, which adds a little freshness and acidity. It is also especially good as a strong tea after strong and spicy dishes or as a snack with smoked food.
