Naturally caffeine-free Rooibos has established its place as an evening tea in the homes of many Finns. The beautifully amber-coloured and slightly sweet nutty herbal tea offers a wonderfully warm feeling and many other factors why it would fit into the everyday life of the Finnish people.
The health effects of rooibos are manifold. The stomach-soothing drink contains plenty of antioxidants and has been studied to help the body protect itself from cardiovascular diseases. Rooibos also contributes to the wellness of the skin and hair, so for example, for those suffering from atopic dermatitis, dry skin and allergies, Rooibos acts as a symptom reliever.
In reality, however, Rooibos (Aspalathus Linearis) is not tea. It is in the legume family and is not related to the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis). However, it is easier to use the word "tea" in the vernacular, even if there what was brewed was not related. The correct term for tea-like drinks is therefore tisane or herbal infusion.
Rooibos is brewed like tea , but unlike tea, it does not contain tanninsthat would cause bitterness from too hot water or from a long brewing time. You can add milk, milk alternatives, and honey to taste.
As it is made from the needles of the red bush, Rooibos has a fine structure. We therefore recommend a strainer as dense as possible for rooibos brewing, such as the Forsman Easy tea strainer .
In Forsman's rooibos selection, you can find both unflavored and flavored rooibos in bulk or in plant-based pyramid bags. We are also Finland's largest importer of Fair Trade and organic rooibos.
