Hibiscus Natutel is an infusion made from a close cousin to the Chinese rose, roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa), from which many delicious hot and cold drinks can be made. Hibiscus originates in West Africa, where it grows wild. It is a very tart drink. As a naturally caffeine-free infusion, it fits every moment of the day.
The infused drink is a beautiful, vibrant red. It tastes acidic and tart, which goes very will with added sweetness such as sugar and honey.
Hibiscus can be steeped traditionally in hot water, which is the fastest way to get a hot, warming drink for the evening. It also works great as an ice tea! Just put a spoonful of it for every 2 dl in a jug of cold water and steeep overnight in the fridge or for a couple hours in room temperature. Cold-brewed hibiscus is so popular in the Caribbean that some call it Water of Jamaica.
