Matcha whisk, or Chasen in Japanese, is a tool made from a single piece of bamboo, which is used to whisk matcha powder into water. The powder tends to clump in water, but the matcha whisk has enough small bristles to break up the matcha clumps and dissolve them in the water.

The bristles of the whisk should be rinsed with hot water every time before use. It straightens and softens the bristles. Put 2g of matcha per 2dl of about 70-80 degrees water in a bowl. Whisk the matcha until frothy in a W or M-shaped motion. Try not to scratch the bottom of the bowl with the bristles.

Clean the whisk by pouring hot water over it or by whisking just hot water in a bowl. Washing with soap and washing in the dishwasher will damage the whisk and may destroy it irreversibly.
